 The
Field Trip on the 30th of April has been given a new title
Geological and geophysical properties of the Faroe Island Basalt Group
Short summary
This field trip will highlight the large scale geological variations in the
Faroe Island Basalt Group (FIBG), set in relations to the observed geophysical
heterogeneities from the Malinstindur and Enni formations. The architecture of
the various lava types and flows will be studied in the field, and short talks
on the geophysical interpretations of these based on scientific onshore wells
will be given on site.
Structural features, fracture zones with associated dyke intrusions and sills
will also be visited along with some of the volcanoclastic sedimentary beds.

Two geoscientists from Jarðfeingi, Uni Árting (Geologist/petrologist) and Uni
Petersen (Geophysicist) will lead the field trip.
If the weather is good (which we hope), the trip will take us to some
spectacular scenic stops on the high roads ideal for postcard pictures.
Due to highly variable weather conditions
in
the Faroe Islands may we please advise you to bring waterproofs and warm
clothing. We will be looking at the geology from the roadside, but will be
standing outside the buss for longer periods of time. We will rendezvous at the bus outside Hotel Hafia between 8.00 and 8.15 am and
outside Hotel Føroyar (Kerjalon) between 8.30 and 8.45 am
on Monday the 30th of April.
We are aiming to be back in Tórshavn around 4.00 pm for participants to have a
chance to rest and be ready for the Ice-Breaker at the Nordic House at 6.00 pm.
The charge of the field trip will be DKK
1000. Please register online. |
